There has to be more to life than this right?
Maybe you never liked your job but thought you’d find it more tolerable after the change in perspective that children bring. You resent the long hours and the juggle that comes with life as a working mum. You never feel good enough at work and home. But you feel stuck.
Perhaps you took a break from work while you focused on your family. Your kids have started school now and you’re clawing back your life. You want to go back to work but you feel stuck.
What you really want is a job that:
- You enjoy
- Uses your special talents and interests
- Fits in with your family life
- Pays well
- Allows you to be yourself
Sounds impossible?
Well not necessarily so. I was in the same situation as you. After years of unhappiness in the corporate world, I thought I’d feel different after returning to work post-children but the demands of juggling a busy job and a busy home life took their toll. I realised that if my job was going to take me away from my babies I needed to enjoy it and it needed to fit around my life.
After years of sucking it up, I decided enough was enough and I took the time to work out what I really wanted from work and life and developed a plan to take me there. This plan did not involve quitting my job straight away and throwing my family into a perilous financial situation. It was realistic and took into account the reality of my family’s situation.
Now I work with other mums to help them change their careers and lives. We’re already doing the most important job on the planet and we deserve to be happy and healthy. It’s time to admit that being unhappy in work is infecting the other areas of our life. It’s time to stop sucking it up.
