After the craziness of summer holidays and my eldest starting kindy last week, I’m glad that things are settling back into a routine and I’m so excited to be back at my desk (kitchen table) writing.
As I told you last week, I have really missed being in my business and writing these blog posts to you. That has bought on a fair amount of frustration. But it has also bought some unexpected elation. You see, after all these years of dreading Monday mornings, I have finally discovered work that I love. And Mondays are now something that I look forward to.
It’s still early days in my business and I can’t say I’m being paid a great deal to do this work right now but I am so relieved and happy to have discovered what makes me tick and be working towards making a living from it. It’s important to me that I make that distinction to my readers. You may still be working in a day job that doesn’t make you happy, or you may be working in your home and raising your children full-time but when you’ve “discovered” the work you love and taking steps, no matter how small, towards it, you will never want to go back. And you will feel differently.
· You will feel relieved. As if a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
· You will have more time and more headspace because all that worrying about what you are going to do with the rest of your life will be gone. You will have some direction and so much to look forward to.
· You will look forward to doing your work and will plan out times in the day, no matter how small, to focus on it, even when you are tired and even when MAFS is on tv. You will suddenly become way more focused with your time.
· You won’t worry so much about the money. You know that you will find a way to make this pay or supplement with other activities. You won’t mind giving up on your lifestyle in order to make it work.
· You will also be a little bit scared. What if something comes along to take this away from you? Or what if it takes so long to retrain/ acquire the necessary experience that you never reach your destination? Sometimes this fear will translate into impatience and it may make you just a little bit grouchy when things aren’t going your way. But you will get better at recognising when you are in the grip of this fear and won’t let it stop you. You will also find ways to overcome the experience and training hurdles in front of you. You will discover that all your previous experiences will make you well equipped for this work and doors will open for you that you never thought possible.
· Sometimes you may feel regretful. If only you had known about this work when you were in your twenties. You wouldn’t have wasted so much time going to the pub, watching TV or slaving away in that job you hated. But then, with your new inner wisdom, you will remind yourself that you wouldn’t be the person you are now, and want this so much, without those years.
· Most of all though, you will just feel so content, and so grateful that you discovered this before it was too late and you will know that you have to do it and that there is no way you are going back to how things were before.
